Celebrating Cultural Diversity Programme
The Celebrating Culture Diversity Programme was delivered by The Rural Centre on behalf of Ards and North Down Borough Council supported through the EU PEACE IV Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).
The programme offered free workshops and site visits to cultural centres and places of workshop to explore culture, identity and diversity. Participants explored how culture influences everything we do and looked at different cultural perspectives.
Participants took part in:
1. Facilitated workshops on diverse cultures and faiths
2. Visits to cultural centres and places of worship
3. Visits to Chester Beatty Museum and Irish Jewish Museum, Dublin
The workshops, facilitation, visits, meals and transport were provided free to participants.
The programme delivered:
- 1 – Launch event at the beginning of the project
- 40 – Facilitated workshops
- 41 – Participants engaged in the workshops and site visits (over 21+ hours per person)
- 6 – Site visits to local places of worship
- 1 – Video produced of the Belfast Islamic Centre
- 1 – Video produced of The Church of Ireland, Cookstown
- 4 – Videos produced on the key beliefs of some of the largest world religions:
Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism
The videos can be used to share with individuals, local schools, community groups and anyone interested in learning about other faiths and beliefs.

Participants taking part in a recent visit to the Indian Cultural Centre, Belfast, Visit to the Jewish Museum, Dublin and Visit to the Chester Beatty Museum, Dublin and guided tour of the Sacred Traditions exhibition of artefacts from the Christianity, Islam and Buddhism.
