Study visit to Innishowen, Donegal 17 & 18 May 2019 when the Heritage Groups visited O’Doherty’s Keep, Candonagh Cross, Cloncha Church and Cross, Burt Castle and Grainan of Aileach. On Saturday 18 May 2019 a showcase event was held in Buncrana where each group share the are of heritage they were particularly interested in through presentations, displays and video recordings.

This was the first Heritage Weekend event to take place in Donegal on the 3 & 4 August 2019. Our host on the 3 August 2019 was Donegal GAP Heritage and History Group who organised a walk in the footsteps of the Spanish Armada to remember the 1300 crew who lost their lives in 1588 when the Spanish ships, the la Duquesa Santa Ana & La Girona sank off Loughros More Peninsula. The group then visited a Medieval Village at Ballyshannon hosted by the McGinley Clan.

Newsletter Heritage Weekend 3 & 4 August 2019

The second Heritage Weekend event took place in Inishowen in the 16 & 17 August 2019. West Inishowen Heritage Group provided a tour of the Sledrin which is being investigated as being a site of a battle between Shane ‘The Proud’ O’Neill and the O’Donnells. The group also visited Lough Fad, Meendoran to view the Crannog on the Lake and the Rock Art.

In the evening Sliabh Sneacht Centre hosted the group at the official launch of the Inishowen Heritage Trail and Exhibition with a Medieval Banquet.

Newsletter on the 2nd Heritage Weekend Mid Ulster: 13 & 14 September 2019 for a Clan meeting and explained the celebration of Michaelmas/ a harvest festival before taking part in the crowning of the O’Neill ceremony. Mid Ulster and Donegal heritage Forum visits to local historical site including Lissen House, Beagmore Stone Circles and Clone Church with O’Neill grave.
