University Study Visit: Youth work and Intercultural Competence

The Rural Centre delivered this contractor behalf of ECRORY to coordinate a three-day study visit to Maynooth University, Ireland and Ulster University, N Ireland to share their Youth and Community Work degree programmes. The study visit focused on Higher Education institutions and other establishments involved in Youth and Community Work programmes.

The main aim of the Study Visit was to promote international Youth Work and intercultural competence within these institutions. Through linking Youth and Community Work programmes to Erasmus+ Youth, European youth policy and the European Training Strategy, the project also aimed towards recognition of Non-Formal Learning and greater professionalisation of Youth Workers and Youth Work training.

Aims & Objectives

To look at different ways that UK and Ireland Youth and Community Work curricula might incorporate international work and/or intercultural competence modules
To share experiences from participants’ countries of how international work and intercultural competence are incorporated into Youth and Community Work courses
To create links between Youth and Community Work faculties and European programmes (particularly Erasmus+), European Youth Policy, and the European Training Strategy

Participants

Participants included 23 youth workers, leaders and academics from Croatia, Hungary, Ireland, Latvia, Poland and the UK.
